The third and final course in the high school integrated sequence builds on students’ study of linear, exponential, quadratic, and absolute value functions as well as their study of 2- and 3-dimensional figures. Students further develop important algebraic ideas by extending their knowledge of functions and their techniques to solve equations by studying new function families: polynomial, radical, trigonometric, logarithmic, and rational functions. Students also connect algebra with geometry as they explore conic sections. Both algebraic and geometric modeling is a big part of this course.

In this course, students will:

  • Deepen their understanding of exponential functions and equations
  • Develop the concept of a logarithmic function as the inverse of an exponential function,
  • Model and solve problems with exponential, logarithmic logarithmic, rational, square root, and cube root functions and related equations
  • Investigate key characteristics of trigonometric functions and use these functions to model real-world phenomena
  • Model and solve problems with quadratic and square root inequalities
  • Investigate key characteristics of polynomial functions, and model and solve problems with polynomial functions and equations
  • Build on prior work with probability to develop an understanding of the basics of inferential thinking
  • Analyze arithmetic and geometric sequences and series and make connections to linear and exponential functions
  • Analyze connections between 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional representations
  • Model with geometry
  • Investigate and model real world problems with conic sections

Topics are designed to provide ample opportunity for students to develop their ability to apply important mathematical processes and practices as they master the content described in next-generation college and career readiness standards.
